Imagine Shawnee Focus Groups

As a part of Imagine Shawnee, we are looking for community engagement and feedback. We invited specific groups to take part in one of many focus groups that we held. These focus group are specifically for business owners, youth, educators, seniors, and downtown.

These focus groups lasted approximately one hour and will provided an opportunity to discuss all aspects of Shawnee – development, infrastructure, parks and recreation, and more, as it relates to the targeted group.

The discussions from these groups will be reported to the Imagine Shawnee Steering Committee and the City Council to help make the guiding recommendations for the future of vision of Shawnee.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who selected these specific focus groups?
The Imagine Shawnee Steering Committee selected these five focus groups.

These focus groups provide a demographically diverse group of Shawnee and will be asked to participate in a guided discussion about Shawnee's future.
What about residents who fall outside these specific focus groups? For example - ages 26-54 who are not educators or business owners?
There are many opportunities for the general public to weigh in for Imagine Shawnee.

The first Imagineering Session was held July 15 from 4-6 at Transport Brewery. The second opportunity was held this past Saturday from 9-11 at Erfurt Park. The third session will be held September 12 from 6-8 at Tomahawk Hills Golf Course.

With these sessions we tried to distribute locations, times, and days of the week so we could hit as many residents as possible. Additionally these sessions are 2 hours each so we can make sure all comments and discussions are captured.
What if I can't attend any of the focus group sessions?
None of these work with your schedule? No problem!

The citizen survey, which allows for feedback specific for Imagine Shawnee, will be going out within the next month or so. And if you aren't one of the random households it is mailed to, you can fill it out online at any time.

Additionally, we are asking for youth (ages 15-25) feedback. You can fill out that survey here!
The questions at these sessions are so broad, how is anything productive going to come out of the answers?

Broad is the point! Right now we are taking a 10,000 ft view of Shawnee - wants, needs, improvements, etc.

The Steering Committee is still in the data gathering stage, not the planning stage.  When the Steering Committee begins to interpret all of this data, if they feel the need to go back to a particular group to gain more clarity or receive more input, we can certainly do that, but we will let that Steering Committee help us with that decision.

The Governing Body is ultimately the ones who establish tasks to direct staff to accomplish your goals.
