City Manager

The City Manager, Nolan Sunderman, serves as the City's chief executive officer and is responsible for providing professional leadership in the administration and implementation of all City operations and the policies, goals and vision set forth by the Mayor and the City Council. The City Manager's Office consists of Administration, the City Clerk's Office, Human Resources and Legal.

The Deputy City Manager supervises Municipal Court, Human Resources, and the City Clerk's Office. Vicki Charlesworth, Deputy City Manager has been designated the City's ADA Coordinator. The ADA Coordinator is assigned the duties and responsibilities of maintaining documentation and procedures for this policy and working with other City staff on issues related to implementation of ADA requirements.

City Manager Nolan Sunderman
Nolan Sunderman joined the staff at the City of Shawnee as Assistant City Manager in June 2016. In 2018, Mr. Sunderman was promoted to City Manager. Nolan has been in local government for over eleven years. He started his municipal career at the City of Republic, Missouri. In 2007, Nolan started working for the City of Lansing, Kansas, as the Economic Development/Convention & Visitors Bureau Director. In 2014, he went to the City of Prairie Village, Kansas, where he served as the Assistant to the City Administrator. 

Mr. Sunderman holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Missouri State University. He is an active member in numerous professional organizations including the International City/County Management Association and the Kansas Association of City/County Management. Nolan is also a graduate of the Certified Public Manager program through the University of Kansas Public Management Center.
Deputy City Manager Vicki Charlesworth
Vicki Charlesworth joined the staff at the City of Shawnee as a Personnel Technician on November 28, 1988. She was subsequently promoted to Personnel Analyst in 1993, to Deputy City Clerk in 1994, City Clerk in 2001, to Assistant City Manager in 2006 and to Deputy City Manager in 2012. 

Vicki Charlesworth received her Bachelor's Degree in Personnel Administration and Communication Studies from the University of Kansas in 1987. In 2006, she graduated from the Edwin O. Stene Graduate School of Public Administration at the University of Kansas.
