The John B. Glaser Fire Station 71 Administration and Operations Headquarters officially reopened on September 14, 2024, during a “Hose Uncoupling” Grand Reopening event, attended by members of John B. Glaser’s family and a delegation of firefighters visiting from our Sister City, Erfurt, Germany. This momentous occasion coincided with the Shawnee Fire Department’s 100th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the Shawnee/Erfurt Firefighter Exchange.
Our headquarters is proudly named in honor of John B. Glaser, who was killed in the line of duty on May 22, 2010. We will never forget his ultimate sacrifice in service to the Shawnee community.
The focus of the large-scale renovations was to improve and maintain the health of Shawnee’s firefighters. The project included significant enhancements for cancer prevention, improved facilities to support higher-quality sleep when firefighters are able to rest, and a state-of-the-art kitchen for meal preparation.
The Shawnee Fire Department sincerely thanks past and current city leaders, community members, elected officials, business leaders, response partners, and city staff for their trust and support throughout the renovation project that transformed our headquarters. Your support made this possible, and we pledge to continue being responsible stewards of the resources you’ve provided.
